a health supplement containing Inositols

METSYN X™

If any of these sound familiar, you may be dealing with Metabolic Syndrome, also known as Syndrome X.

Introducing METSYN X™, a health supplement formulated with Inositols.

Studies have shown that individuals with Metabolic Syndrome may benefit from Inositol supplementation (Myo-Inositol and D-Chiro-Inositol in a 40:1 ratio) [1].

Understanding the Role of Inositol

Myo-Inositol is a part of a secondary messenger system that may help regulate the body’s response to insulin, by ensuring that each cell receives the proper message from insulin, enabling glucose to enter the cells and be utilized as energy. On the other hand, D-Chiro Inositol may aid in storing any excess glucose within the cells as glycogen. This storage mechanism could help maintain normal blood glucose levels, even between meals, resulting in balanced insulin levels.

Myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol are two naturally occurring forms of inositol, a type of sugar alcohol that plays a role in various cellular functions. They have been studied for their potential benefits in metabolic syndrome, a cluster of conditions that includes obesity, insulin resistance, high blood pressure, and dyslipidemia. There are some potential benefits of inositol on metabolic syndrome that have been observed. Here are a few of them:

Improved insulin sensitivity: Inositol may enhance insulin signaling and improve insulin sensitivity, which is beneficial for individuals with metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance. Studies have demonstrated that inositol supplementation, particularly a combination of myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol in a specific ratio (40:1), may reduce insulin resistance and improve glucose metabolism in individuals with metabolic syndrome and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) [2] [3].

Reduction in metabolic and cardiovascular risk factors: Inositol supplementation has been associated with possible improvements in various metabolic and cardiovascular risk factors commonly observed in metabolic syndrome. Studies have reported reductions in triglyceride levels, total cholesterol levels, and markers of inflammation (such as C-reactive protein) after inositol supplementation [4] [5].

Weight management: Inositol may also play a role in weight management, which is a crucial aspect of metabolic syndrome. Some research suggests that inositol supplementation may help regulate appetite, reduce food cravings, and contribute to weight loss in individuals with metabolic syndrome and PCOS [6] [7].

Unveiling Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic Syndrome, also referred to as Syndrome X, is a cluster of risk factors that, when present together, increase the likelihood of developing cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and strokes. These risk factors include obesity, excess abdominal fat, high blood pressure, insulin resistance, and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels. While having one of these factors doesn’t necessarily mean you have Metabolic Syndrome, it does raise the risk of cardiovascular issues. The diagnosis of Metabolic Syndrome is made when a patient presents with three or more of these risk factors.

Diagnosing Metabolic Syndrome

To make a positive diagnosis of Metabolic Syndrome, at least three of the following factors need to be above normal ranges:

  • Waist circumference
  • Fasting triglyceride levels
  • Cholesterol levels
  • Blood pressure
  • Fasting glucose level

To determine these levels, consult with your physician for appropriate testing.

Complications OF Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic Syndrome can lead to severe and chronic complications, including atherosclerosis, diabetes, heart attacks, kidney disease, strokes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, peripheral artery disease, cardiovascular disease, female infertility (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), and male infertility (decreased sperm quality).

It’s important to note that Metabolic Syndrome is prevalent in approximately 5% of people with a normal body weight, 22% of overweight individuals, and a staggering 60% of those considered obese. In international industrialized countries, around 20-30% of the population may be affected, and this figure may be even higher in the South African population.

Insulin Resistance:

In a healthy digestive system, insulin helps sugar (glucose) enter cells to be used as fuel. In cases of insulin resistance, cells do not respond normally to insulin, making it difficult for glucose to enter cells. Daily supplementation of Inositol’s (Myo- and D-Chiro Inositol) might prevent dietary deficiency of inositol and help rectify Inositol range required for normal glucose metabolism.
